6 EASY TIPS FOR STYLING MONOCHROMATIC OUTFITS
1. PICK A COLOR
This sounds super simple - cause it is. Just pick any color you want to wear today!
2. RULE OF TWO'S
Make sure that you have at least two things different articles of clothing in that color - whether it is a shirt and pants, sweater and skirt, hat and coat, you get the idea. If you have more pieces in the same color that you want to incorporate - that's even better!
3. MIX TONES
You might think this is bananas but if the color isn't exactly the same, don't worry! While the same exact shade can make for a very exciting set - having an outfit with a couple different tones of the same color can add just the right amount of variety to your outfit.
4. MIX TEXTURES
Imagine you have a fuzzy jacket and sleek patent leather pants in the same color - that's an automatic winner. Incorporating different fabric textures and cuts is a really simple way to elevate your outfit and add another dimension to your otherwise mono-outfit.
5. ADD A COLOR OR PATTERN
I know I know, 'mono' means one BUT sometimes you wanna break it up a little bit. I usually like to add a secondary color like white, black, cream or grey to act as a filler. I'll usually do this if I am wearing a color besides those that I just listed because sometimes too much of a bold color can be overwhelming, especially if you are layering. You can also incorporate a secondary color with a patterned piece. So say you want to rock an orange monochromatic outfit - you could wear an orange and yellow plaid top, an orange mini skirt and white boots.
6. HAVE FUN WITH IT
There is a lot of trial and error with monochromatic outfits but have fun with it! And I should also note: I've found that monochromatic fits are always my most eye-catching, eccentric outfits - so be prepared cause you'll definitely be attracting lots of attention. Just make sure you wear your fits with confidence and there ain't nothing you can't do!
